A.Bogdanov International Institute (IABI) was founded in October, 1999 as an organizational and scientific center, developing ideas, that constitute scientific heritage of a Russian scientist-encyclopaedist Alexander Bogdanov, from standpoints of modern science. The Institute is aimed at uniting and coordinating research work of Russian and foreign scientists, who creatively apply in various fields of science methodological principles and approaches, formulated by Alexander Bodganov in his universal organizational science – tectology and other works.
According to its organization-legal form in correspondence with constituent instruments, the Institute is an independent non-commercial organization, established by natural and legal persons on the basis of voluntary property installments with no commercialization as the main purpose of the activity.
Foundation of the International A.Bogdanov Institute was supported by the Second Russian Philosophy Congress (Ekaterinburg, July, 1999), a number of eminent scientists, including RAS academicians L.I.Abalkin and D.S.Lvov, foreign scientific figures, such as John Biggart (University of Eastern England), a member of Scientific Council of ABII, Aranom Garre (Center of Complex Processes Study, Australia), Abraham Yassour (Haifa University, Israel).

The Institute’s works on its main subject are referred to the sphere of interdisciplinary study, with their methodological part based on Alexander Bogdanov’s scientific concepts about universality of system organization laws, manifested in system formations of various nature.

Taking part of the organizational center the Institute regularly forms scientific and informational infrastructure in the sphere of its research priorities. Now, ABII is cooperating with the following higher institutions: Russian Academy of Public Service (Moscow), Ural State Technical University, International Institute of RemoteEducation (Ekaterinburg); scientific institutions of Russian Academy of Science: RAS Institutes of economy, philosophy, world literature (Moscow), industrial bionomics, mathematics and mechanics, plant and animal ecology in Ural department of RAS (Ekaterinburg).
As for international contacts the Institute keeps in touch with specialists from Nikkei Research Inc. (Japan), Sony Computer Science Lab. (Japan), Boston University (USA), Fukui University (Japan), Miyazaki University (Japan), Future University - Hakodate (Japan), Warsaw University of Technology (Poland). The latter three universities expressed their principle consent to conduct common with ABII scientific, research and educational projects. The corresponding two-sided agreements on joint cooperation are now being issued.
There has been set up an Internet-site of Alexander Bogdanov Institute (both in English and in Russian), containing information about the Institute and its founders, members of Scientific Council and staff, and ABII activities as well (address of the site: www.bogdinst.ru).
The license for publishing has been received: it was given to the Institute by Ministry of RF on the seal, telebroadcasting and means of mass communications on January 9, 2001, series ID ¹03666.

There is being prepared for issuing in 2001 in Russian a bibliographic directory “Bogdanov and his works” edited by J.Biggart, G.D.Glovelly, A.Yassour, first published in 1998 in English.

In accordance with purposes and subjects of its activities, stipulated by the Charter, ABII working plan also reflects other tasks of the Institute as organizational and scientific center: organization of Alexander Bogdanov’s works publishing, development of remote education, organization of students and young investigators exchange, conducting of international conferences, devoted to study and development of Alexander Bogdanov’s creative heritage.
At the expense of the Institute twenty Russian libraries were presented with a part of A.A.Malinovsky (A.Bogdanov’s son) monograph circulation, “Tectology. Systems theory. Theoretical biology” (Moscow, Editorial URSS, 2000), which for now is the most complete account of contents, sphere of application and significance for modern science of A,.Bogdanov’s ideas.
